After the end of the transition period, where a license is required to import/export goods, it will be necessary to obtain such a license when importing goods from the UK to the EU and exporting goods from the EU to the UK.
Changing the limits on the quantity and value of transported goods, customs formalities, excise duties and customs duties.
Basic information
The UK will not be subject to EU VAT rules as it has lost its status as a Member State as a result of Brexit. In relations between the EU and Great Britain, transactions such as intra-Community delivery/purchase of goods (B2C transactions) and distance selling (intra-Community B2C sale of goods) will not take place, but export/import of goods will occur.
From 1 January 2021, imports of excise goods and passenger cars from the UK into the EU and exports of excise goods and passenger cars from the EU to the UK will constitute imports and exports from/to a third country, respectively. This results in the need to comply with the formalities set out in the customs law.
In order to gain access to the EU market, UK service providers and professionals based in the UK will need to demonstrate compliance with any laws, procedures or authorizations that condition foreign nationals or companies based outside the EU to provide services in the EU.
Additional information on rules and cooperation with the UK from 1 January 2021.
For a transitional period (i.e. until 31 December 2020), the UK is participating in the EU's Single Market and Customs Union.
From 1 January 2021, EU traders intending to import from or export to the UK will be required to have an EORI registration and trader identification number to complete customs formalities.
From 1 January 2021, goods imported from or exported to the UK will need to be placed under a customs procedure and a customs declaration will need to be made for this purpose.
